S'pore sends over S$560,000 worth of humanitarian assistance to Nepal

Singapore provided over S$560,000 worth of humanitarian aid to Nepal on September 4. The assistance package includes medical supplies, DNA testing kits, protective equipment, and specialized tools for search and recovery operations. The aid was coordinated between Singapore agencies and Nepali authorities to support Nepal's ongoing search and recovery efforts.

The Singapore Police Force, along with the Home Team Science and Technology Agency and the Health Sciences Authority, deployed 35 officers specialising in disaster victim identification and aerial surveillance to aid the Nepalese authorities. The 35-member team arrived in Nepal on September 6 and began working on the ground to support the disaster relief efforts.

This assistance follows a previous US$100,000 contribution by the Singapore government to the Singapore Red Cross' fundraising efforts, which have raised over S$3 million. Gan Siow Huang, the Singapore Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, expressed appreciation for the generosity of Singaporeans in supporting Nepal during this challenging time.

The package is a testament to the strong relationship between Singapore and Nepal, and the hope is that the modest contribution will bring comfort and relief to those affected by the tragedy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Crisis Response Team has been working closely with local authorities since August 27 to locate the nine missing Singaporeans.

The team remains in close contact with their families, providing regular updates and assistance on the ground in Nepal.
