Several belugas from Marineland have health issues, Chicago aquarium says

Shedd Aquarium, a Chicago-based site, has reported several health issues among several belugas that were transferred from Ontario’s Marineland. The aquarium is closely monitoring the whales' health, observing their hydration, breathing rates, swim patterns, social interaction, and other behaviors. This comes after the aquarium reported two of the three whales that died in a week were belugas from Marineland.

One of the belugas, Peekachu, died two weeks after its relocation on August 25, and another beluga named Rain, who was moved to the Chicago park in mid-August, also died. There is uncertainty surrounding the health of the remaining animals, and the aquarium is awaiting lab results to investigate the deaths. Shedd Aquarium stated that while some rescued belugas are showing encouraging signs, several have presented clinical concerns, with their condition changing day to day.

The belugas get most of their hydration through the fish they eat, and while some are eating regularly, others are not. All the belugas are not in the desired health condition. Marineland was responsible for the health clearance before the relocations.
