Section 144 imposed in KP's Bajaur

BAJAUR: District authorities imposed a 15-day ban on pillion riding on Saturday, invoking Section 144 in response to security concerns in the region. The decision, backed by Deputy Commissioner Adnan Farid Afridi, was based on recommendations from the District Intelligence Coordination Committee (DICC), who expressed worry over the potential use of motorbikes in terrorist activities.

The statement from the DC office highlighted the urgent need for preventive measures to ensure safety, prevent any untoward incidents, maintain law and order, and promote peace within the district. After considering these concerns, the deputy commissioner, exercising his powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), declared the ban on pillion riding, which remains in effect until September 18, 2026, unless otherwise modified or withdrawn. Violators of the order could face punishment under section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Additionally, an unidentified attacker targeted the house of Government Degree College Salarzai principal Salim Jan with a hand grenade in Bajaur district on Friday night. The attack, which occurred in the Chargoo area under the jurisdiction of Salarzai police station, resulted in no reported casualties or property damage. Police and residents confirmed the incident, with an official at the police station stating that an investigation had been launched to determine the motive and identify the perpetrator.
