Scrutinise Kwankwaso’s Background and Mine, Obi Tells Nigerians

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has challenged Nigerians to closely examine the backgrounds of presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate urged citizens to verify any wrongdoings committed by Kwankwaso, his running mate from Kano State. Obi emphasized that their personal and educational histories have been made public for scrutiny.

Both candidates have presented their backgrounds, including dates of birth and educational institutions, for public verification.

Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioned the ruling party against assuming victory in the 2027 elections based on the number of governors the party controls. He argued that merely holding over 30 governorships does not ensure electoral success. Kwankwaso pointed out that the incumbent president lost the previous election, warning against complacency among those with multiple governorships.

He also highlighted the potential challenges faced by Northern governors in future campaigns due to public dissatisfaction with their performance.

The NDC candidate's comments come as politicians prepare for the 2027 presidential race, with heightened scrutiny of their backgrounds and records. Obi mentioned a legal dispute with his former spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, over allegations of defamatory comments during the 2023 presidential campaign. He also criticized the APC for insufficient use of increased revenue, questioning how the substantial funds collected have translated into improved living conditions for Nigerians.

The former Kano governor noted the growing public anger due to the disparity between government revenue and the state of amenities across the country, particularly in Northern Nigeria, which grapples with ongoing insecurity issues.
