Saudi Arabia, Kuwait strengthen cooperation in combating desertification and restoring lands

RIYADH — In September and October 2026, the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification in Saudi Arabia is collaborating with Kuwait's Environment Public Authority to host a series of virtual training and technical workshops. This initiative is part of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries aimed at environmental protection, rehabilitation, and conservation.

The center is conducting five specialized workshops focused on combating desertification and restoring degraded lands. These sessions aim to develop policies and strategies to address desertification, reduce land degradation, support decision-making, and protect ecosystems. Attendees will learn about the significance of green belts in preventing sand encroachment, and gain insight into Saudi Arabia's experience in managing invasive plant species and the achievements in this area.

This partnership underscores Saudi Arabia's dedication to strengthening cooperation and sharing expertise in combating desertification and restoring degraded lands. The initiative also aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and contributes to global climate action efforts.
