Rayer says US should take legal action if Hadi's claims are false

DAP lawmaker RSN Rayer has suggested that the United States government should take legal action against Malaysian Prime Minister Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang if his allegations of US political interference in Malaysia are proven false. According to Rayer, Hadi had claimed that US representatives had approached Pas leaders and offered assistance to overthrow the Malaysian government.

Hadi further stated that these claims involved senior Pas leaders and that he had met with the US ambassador. Rayer emphasized that the allegations concerned national security and interference by a foreign power in Malaysia's constitutional and democratic affairs. The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur had dismissed these allegations, stating that the US had never sought to determine Malaysia's political leadership and that such reports were false.

Rayer presented two possibilities: either Hadi is telling the truth, in which case the US would have serious questions to answer, or Hadi is not telling the truth, in which case the US should consider legal action instead of merely providing a diplomatic denial. Rayer stressed that a mere lip service denial by the US is insufficient.

The US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur today reiterated its denial of any attempt to determine Malaysia's political leadership, calling any suggestion otherwise false.
