Quebec Premier calls cabinet meeting ahead of tariffs

MONTREAL - Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette has announced she will hold a cabinet meeting on Monday, just one day before retaliatory tariffs imposed by Canada on U.S. goods are set to commence. The first annual payment for this tariff scheme is set at $205.00 plus GST for a one-year subscription, with automatic renewal at $233.00 plus GST every 52 weeks, marking a 10% discount off the regular annual price of $259.35. This offer is available to both new and returning subscribers, with the option to cancel at any time.

Fréchette's office has confirmed that the cabinet meeting will be conducted virtually at 6 p.m. the following day, although the agenda has not been disclosed. The tariffs imposed will vary from 15 to 50 percent and will affect a range of products, including dairy, steel, and copper. These measures are a response to U.S. President Donald Trump's 50 percent tariffs on $28 billion worth of Canadian goods.

Political opponents of Fréchette have accused her of exploiting the tariff dispute for political gain during her election campaign. Québec solidaire co-spokesperson Ruba Ghazal called on Fréchette to address how she intends to support workers who will be affected by the tariffs.
