Prosecutor General denies involvement in covering up illegal call centers

In a statement posted on Telegram, Prosecutor General Kravchenko denied any involvement in covering up illegal call centers, stating he had nothing to do with facilitating such activities or using his powers for that purpose. He clarified that he had suspended a specific employee from the Office of the Prosecutor General for his role in an NABU investigation, and ordered preparations for possible dismissal proceedings.

Kravchenko also announced an investigation into the Department of International Cooperation and the unit combating cybercrime, as well as polygraph tests for all employees involved in procedural supervision and investigations into illegal call center cases. He assured that personnel and administrative decisions would be based on the outcomes of these reviews, with criminal-procedural actions taken where warranted.

Kravchenko noted that law enforcement had conducted over 1,050 searches and shut down around 340 call centers in the past year, while 147 criminal proceedings were under investigation, and more than 183 individuals received suspicion notices. He emphasized that no results should be used as an excuse for abuses within the prosecutor's office and denied claims that he was absent or hiding, stating he was working as usual.

The statement also addressed a photo of a safe in circulation, clarifying it was not located at the Prosecutor General's Office. The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed that NABU had uncovered a criminal organization within the OPG, led by an official who received bribes from fraudulent call centers, and that a legal assessment was required for NABU's nighttime searches of OPG premises and access to criminal investigation materials.
