Police step up highway monitoring as motorists return home after school holidays

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are intensifying monitoring of major highways across the country as families begin returning home from the recent school holidays. Bukit Aman's Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) director, Datuk Seri Mohammed Hasbullah Ali, stated that patrol units are actively on the ground, keeping a close eye on traffic conditions and ensuring the safety of all road users.

With the anticipated surge in vehicle traffic following the holidays, Hasbullah urged motorists to plan their journeys carefully, remain patient, and strictly adhere to traffic rules throughout their travels.

Hasbullah emphasized the importance of not rushing, particularly in anticipation of heavier traffic and longer travel times. He advised motorists to ensure they are well-rested before undertaking long-distance journeys and to pull over at a safe location if they begin to feel fatigued. Speeding, tailgating, and dangerous lane changes were also discouraged, as they can compromise safety and increase the likelihood of accidents.

Motorists were reminded not to use their mobile phones while driving and to concentrate solely on the road at all times.

Before embarking on their journeys, Hasbullah advised motorists to thoroughly inspect their vehicles, paying particular attention to the tyres, brakes, lights, and other critical components. This proactive approach can help minimize the risk of breakdowns or accidents. Additionally, wearing seat belts was strongly emphasized, as well as the use of properly fastened helmets for motorcyclists and pillion passengers.

He also called on road users to exercise patience in congested areas and to yield to emergency vehicles when necessary.
