Police investigate Bielik fan clash at Portsmouth

Police are investigating an incident at Portsmouth's 2-0 Championship win against Cardiff City on Saturday, following a physical altercation between Cardiff defender Krystian Bielik and a fan. Bielik was trying to retrieve a ball from the crowd late in the second half when he was allegedly slapped in the face by a fan, according to Cardiff head coach Brian Barry-Murphy.

Social media footage suggested Bielik grabbed a young fan around his upper body. Hampshire Police confirmed they are investigating an alleged assault, stating that an investigation into a common assault involving a teenage boy is ongoing. Several Portsmouth supporters made gestures indicating they believed the fan had been grabbed by the throat, and another fan threw a ball at Cardiff defender Perry Ng, both of whom were ejected from the stadium.

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho apologized to Cardiff City's players after the match. Portsmouth Football Club emphasized that the welfare and safeguarding of young people are of paramount importance and that they will continue to liaise with relevant parties as investigations progress. The Football Association is also reviewing the details in the referee's match report before deciding on any potential action.
