Palestinians in Gaza bury remains of 100 people

In northern Gaza, Palestinians are holding funeral ceremonies for approximately 100 individuals, including 60 children, whose remains were found in the ruins of buildings destroyed during Israel's ongoing conflict. The remains were taken on Sunday from Zeitoun neighborhood to al-Ma'madani cemetery in central Gaza City for burial, as reported by Al Jazeera's correspondent, Ghazi al-Aloul.

Civil defense crews and family members had been diligently working to clear the debris for weeks. Many of the victims belonged to the extensive Malaka family, which suffered the loss of 55 members. Al-Aloul mentioned that families had been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to inter their loved ones in designated cemeteries. He noted that not every family had this possibility, as Israeli forces had demolished and disturbed cemeteries in other parts of Gaza during the war.

The remains, though wrapped in shrouds that appeared intact, were often just fragments, mainly bones and remnants of belongings, particularly from the children. Raed al-Dahshan, the head of Gaza's civil defense service, informed Al Jazeera that his teams have plans to recover remains of thousands more missing individuals, but the progress is being slowed down by a lack of heavy machinery.
