NPP clears all 47 aspirants to contest 2026 national officers elections

The opposition New Patriotic Party's National Officers' Elections Vetting Committee has approved all 47 candidates seeking to vie in the party's 2026 national officers' election. The vetting process, carried out from August 31 to September 3, 2026, examined contenders for nine leadership positions within the party. In a statement issued by the party's Chairman, Frederick Opare-Ansah, all applicants who appeared before the committee fulfilled the eligibility criteria and were deemed fit to contest.

The National Vice-Chairperson position received the most applicants, with 13 candidates cleared, followed by the National Organiser position with eight. Six aspirants were cleared to compete for the National Youth Organiser role, while five qualified for the National Nasara Organiser race. Four candidates were approved to contest the National Chairman, General Secretary, and National Treasurer positions.

Two aspirants were cleared for the National Women’s Organiser position, while only one was deemed suitable to vie as National Communications Director. The total number of cleared aspirants across all positions amounts to 47.

Upon the completion of this vetting process, the party will hold balloting on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the NPP headquarters in Accra. This will determine the candidates who will appear on the ballot paper. Aspirants have been instructed to attend the event or appoint authorized representatives to partake on their behalf.

The National Officers Elections Committee expressed gratitude to committee members, aspirants, and the public for their cooperation during this exercise. The committee also reaffirmed its pledge to ensure transparent and credible execution of the subsequent stages of the electoral process while maintaining unity within the party.
