Mother of Sheng Siong bosses, who was kidnapped in 2014, dies at 91

Ng Lye Poh, the revered mother of Sheng Siong founders, has passed away at the age of 91 on September 5 morning. Renowned as the "Sheng Siong Ah Ma", she was fondly remembered by her second son, Lim Hock Chee, as a cheerful and sociable individual. Lim revealed during a wake that the bereavement money will be generously donated to charity.

Lim Hock Chee recounted the chilling details of the 2014 kidnapping ordeal, which left him in a state of high anxiety after receiving the kidnapper's call. On January 8, 2014, Ng was abducted by Lee Sze Yong, who demanded a staggering S$20 million ransom. Lee confessed that he had meticulously planned the heist for over two years, driven by financial desperation, having already incurred S$200,000 in debt.

He targeted Lim Hock Chee, who was then valued at S$500 million according to Forbes' Singapore Richest List. Lee spent months conducting extensive research and eventually approached Ng on an overhead bridge in Hougang Avenue 2, pretending to be concerned about her son's fall. He tricked her into boarding his car, blindfolded her, and drove her away to Punggol End.

There, Lee asked Heng Chen Boon to join him, but instructed her not to ask any questions. Upon confession, Lee was sentenced to life imprisonment with three canings, while Heng received a three-year jail term.
