Methu: Ruto cannot fight goonism while keeping Murkomen

Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia has criticized President William Ruto for his government's handling of goonism, arguing that Ruto cannot address the issue while retaining Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. In a post on X, Methu stated that Ruto cannot claim to combat goonism while "protecting and empowering those accused of perpetuating it."

Methu questioned why Murkomen, who is accused of being involved in goon activities, remains in Ruto's Cabinet. Methu's comments come after Murkomen denied claims of a goon crisis in Kenya, stating that the country is safe. Murkomen accused politicians of exaggerating the issue and accused them of mobilizing youths to create unrest.

The National Police Service also denied allegations that its officers facilitate goons or criminal gangs at political events. Methu raised concerns over the safety of journalists, citing the recent kidnapping of Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich. Kiprotich was reportedly abducted and found safe several hours later. Methu condemned the "kidnapping and intimidation of media personalities" and urged the government to allow journalists to work without fear.
