Messi sets up Miami goal in first game since Argentina retirement

Inter Miami's Lionel Messi (centre) orchestrated both goals that secured a 2-2 draw against Atlanta United in their MLS match on Saturday. The match, delayed by thunderstorms and lightning for 90 minutes, saw Messi, the Argentina star and all-time leading goalscorer, play a pivotal role. The hosts took the lead in the 32nd minute when Brazil's Casemiro headed home Messi's corner.

Atlanta equalized three minutes later through former Newcastle forward Miguel Almiron. Messi's skill was on full display again as he set up Luis Suarez for a measured finish just before halftime, bringing Inter Miami to the front. However, Swiss striker Breel Embolo secured Atlanta's share of the spoils with a penalty in the 87th minute.

In another match, Derrick Etienne scored for Toronto in the second-half stoppage time to secure a 4-4 draw against Chicago. Josh Sargent netted a hat-trick for Toronto, but Chicago's Maren Haile-Selassie and Robert Lewandowski each scored for the visitors, putting them 4-3 up. Philadelphia edged Montreal 2-0, with 16-year-old Cavan Sullivan scoring in the 75th minute, marking the teenager's most scoring contributions in a season.

Elsewhere, Antoine Griezmann's goal in the 28th minute gave hosts Orlando a 1-0 victory over San Diego.
