Landtagswahl Sachsen-Anhalt: BSW-Spitzenkandidat sieht „Schnittmengen“ mit AfD

In the recent Landtagswahl in Sachsen-Anhalt, the BSW's top candidate Thomas Schulze has expressed openness to discussions with the AfD. During an interview with the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Schulze stressed that their willingness to engage with all parties includes the AfD, emphasizing that they are not interested in the "Brandmauer" (the Wall of Fortification) and are ready to speak with all parties.

When asked about potential areas of agreement between the BSW and AfD, Schulze highlighted their shared stance on Russia, saying they both oppose the sanctions that adversely affect the economy. However, Schulze made it clear that the AfD's plans on education policy, which he considers entirely different, create a significant divide between the two parties. Schulze also noted that the BSW's approach to the economy is notably more social.

Schulze's party secured a spot in the Landtag, as expected, which could play a crucial role in the selection of the Minister-President. When asked about whether the Abgeordneten (members of parliament) would adhere to a factional line or have the freedom to choose their own candidates, Schulze responded that for now, they are focused on being in the Landtag and will determine the next steps once they are inside.

Schulze also speculated that the AfD might be speculating on overthrows from the CDU, but refused to comment further.

On the AfD's perspective, Tino Chrupalla, the party's leader, announced that their top candidate, Ulrich Siegmund, will run for the position of Minister-President in the Landtag.
