Italian GP red-flagged after massive Leclerc crash

The Italian Formula One Grand Prix at Monza was abruptly halted after just two laps on Sunday due to a massive crash involving Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver, who holds two victories at Monza, lost control on the exit of the parabolica during lap two, striking the gravel and skidding into the barriers. Leclerc exited the car, appearing winded but unharmed.

The race was red-flagged, with Mercedes' George Russell leading the pack. Russell had overtaken the race's pole-sitter, Pierre Gasly of Alpine. Red Bull's Max Verstappen was in third place, closely followed by Franco Colaplinto in the second Alpine car.

Lewis Hamilton, who started the race from the fourth position, fell behind after being pushed off the track by teammate Leclerc at the first chicane and was running as low as eighth place. Championship leader Kimi Antolinainen started the race from the back of the field, having exceeded the allowed number of power unit changes, and had already climbed to 12th place in his Mercedes by the time the race was suspended. The Grand Prix will resume once the damaged tyre barrier has been repaired.
