IBCC Eases Science Equivalence Rules for Foreign-Board Students

The Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC) has made several adjustments to Pakistan’s examination and equivalence system, with a focus on easing the process for students from foreign boards seeking Science Group equivalence. During its 184th Forum meeting in Murree, the commission allowed students who have passed at least two science subjects from foreign boards to receive Science Group equivalence.

Additionally, the IBCC recommended 12 more Deeni Madaris to be included in the SSC and HSSC equivalence framework, bringing the total number of institutions covered under this system to 26. The commission also decided to include B-Form or CNIC numbers on SSC and HSSC certificates to enhance the identification, access, and verification of academic records.

Furthermore, the IBCC will provide scholarships and overseas exposure opportunities to board toppers, as well as organize winter and summer camps for high-achieving students to offer additional learning, leadership, and exposure opportunities. The two-day meeting aimed to shift Pakistan’s examination system away from rote learning and towards conceptual assessment, while simultaneously improving transparency, uniformity, and international recognition of Pakistani qualifications.

Represented at the forum were chairpersons of BISEs from across Pakistan, technical education boards, and senior representatives of curriculum and textbook boards.
