Hamad Port anchors Qatar’s food security

Hamad Port has been instrumental in bolstering Qatar's food security and maintaining the stability of its market, handling over 90,000 tonnes of grain between May and July of this year. This significant volume underscores the port's pivotal role in Qatar's logistics network and its strategic investments in infrastructure and supply chains.

As a cornerstone of Qatar's maritime trade, Hamad Port facilitates the efficient flow of essential goods, underpinned by its advanced infrastructure, extensive maritime connectivity, and robust operational capacity.

Captain Abdulaziz Nasser al-Yafei, executive vice-president of operations at Mwani Qatar, emphasized Hamad Port's crucial position as a major gateway for Qatar's trade and supply chain network. Boasting links to more than 100 maritime destinations worldwide, the port is equipped to handle more than 7.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually, ensuring it can adapt to future trade growth and domestic demand.

Al-Yafei highlighted the port's efficiency, attributing it to a fully integrated 24/7 operating system that meticulously monitors vessel, container, and truck movements, ensuring seamless coordination among relevant entities. This system also includes preventive maintenance and emergency readiness, guaranteeing the smooth and reliable movement of cargo and supply chains.

The operational success of Hamad Port is a collaborative effort between Mwani Qatar and various government and industry partners, including the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the General Authority of Customs, and Qatar Navigation. These partnerships streamline procedures and enhance cargo flow efficiency to and from Qatar.

Beyond its core function of cargo handling, Hamad Port features specialized facilities for storing, processing, and packaging food products, playing a vital role in Qatar's food-sector infrastructure. From import arrival to distribution preparation, these facilities are integral to the nation's food security.

Mwani Qatar continues to bolster the port's capabilities in response to market needs and trade growth, through strategic partnerships with global shipping lines and investments in infrastructure and operational solutions. Since its operational inception in 2016, Hamad Port has undergone several phases of development and expansion, solidifying its status as Qatar's principal gateway for maritime trade.
