From AD to lead: How Shobhinaw Satyaa landed role of Neem Karoli Baba in Hanuman Ansh

Shobhinaw Satyaa, originally a second assistant director on Vishal Chaturvedi's devotional drama Hanuman Ansh, emerged as the unexpected star of the film by embodying the spiritual guru Neem Karoli Baba. Despite starting as an AD, Satyaa's uncanny resemblance and demeanor to the revered guru caught the attention of Chaturvedi, who saw his potential beyond the primary role.

Originating from a modest budget of nearly Rs 2 crore, Hanuman Ansh surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic box office, becoming the most profitable Indian film of all time. When Satyaa joined the production late, the director was initially displeased but was quickly won over by the actor's striking resemblance to Neem Karoli Baba.

Chaturvedi's faith in Satyaa deepened as he noticed the actor's positive attitude and dedication to the script, which he had rehearsed for 15 days prior to shooting. Additionally, Satyaa's commitment to Neem Karoli Baba's teachings and lifestyle further solidified his suitability for the role. When the original actor fell ill, Chaturvedi made the courageous decision to audition Satyaa, who ultimately delivered a standout performance, particularly in the iconic "Han, baba ji" scene.
