Fiorentina sack Grosso after three straight Serie A defeats

On September 6, Fiorentina announced the dismissal of manager Fabio Grosso following a run of three consecutive Serie A losses that placed them at the bottom of the league table. The Italian club released a statement detailing the manager's sudden departure. Fiorentina's poor form continued with a 4-0 loss to AS Roma, a 3-0 home defeat against promoted team Frosinone, and a 2-1 home loss to Torino.

The team's poor defensive record, with nine goals conceded and only one goal scored, underscored the managerial crisis. Grosso, a 48-year-old former defender of Italy, had been in charge for just over three months, replacing Paolo Vanoli on June 8. Grosso signed a two-year contract with Fiorentina, succeeding Vanoli who had led the team to a 15th-place finish the previous season after replacing Stefano Pioli, who was sacked following a ten-game winless start.

Grosso, who netted the winning penalty against France in the 2006 World Cup final, came to Fiorentina after helping Sassuolo win promotion and secure a mid-table position in Serie A. His extensive managerial resume includes stints with Bari, Hellas Verona, Brescia, Sion, Frosinone, and Olympique Lyonnais.
