Duale to IEBC: Ignore political noise, focus on delivering credible elections

Former Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has implored the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to stay focused on its preparations for the 2027 General Election, and to deliver a free, fair, and credible poll. Speaking at a wedding in Garissa, Duale asked IEBC Chairman Erastus Edung Ethekon to disregard political pressure and center on the commission’s constitutional duties.

Duale also emphasized the need for transparency in the acquisition of electoral technology, urging the commission to comply strictly with the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act and other procurement regulations. "The stability and security of the country is in your hands. The democratic values of our country are in your hands in how you prepare for the next general election," Duale urged.

"All the tenders must be conducted in accordance with the PFM Act. You must understand the gravity of your position. Do not compromise the stability of our country." Duale insisted that all procurement processes must maintain transparency, fairness, and accountability, warning the commission against any shortcuts or irregular actions.

His comments come as there has been heightened political discussion about the IEBC’s readiness for the 2027 elections, including the procurement and deployment of voting technology.
