Delhi Satya Niketan building collapse: 1 dead, 4 rescued from ‘Hostel Daze’; locals flag 'congested lanes'

One person has been confirmed dead following the collapse of the Satya Niketan building in Delhi, while rescue teams have managed to pull four individuals from the debris, who are currently in critical condition at AIIMS Trauma Centre. The inauguration of the BJP office in Goa was halted once Union Home Minister Amit Shah learned about the tragic event.

A local source revealed that the hostel, known as "Hostel Daze," was typically fully occupied and had five floors. The narrow and congested lanes surrounding the site further hindered the arrival of rescue vehicles. Another building adjacent to the collapsed Hostel Daze also succumbed to the disaster. Several students were trapped beneath the rubble, with eyewitnesses estimating that over 15 people may still be buried.

The fire brigade and rescue teams have been working tirelessly for approximately 15-20 minutes to extract the trapped individuals, but the process has been challenging due to the difficult terrain. Residents and eyewitnesses have joined the rescue operation, clearing debris with their hands and any available tools to locate trapped people.

The situation could have been worse if the collapse had occurred on a working day, as many students living in the vicinity had already returned home. Police, fire services, CAT Ambulance teams, and various emergency responders have been deployed to the site. Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi and BJP MLA Anil Sharma have also arrived at the location, expressing their concern for the trapped students and requesting that the rescue operation be allowed to continue uninterrupted.
