‘Datuk’ arrested over land deal with project developer

Two men in their 50s and 60s were apprehended by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at their headquarters in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The men, identified as a former official of a statutory body (referred to as "Datuk") and another individual, were taken into custody for questioning following their arrival at the MACC headquarters to provide statements.

According to a MACC source, the two men are under investigation for alleged misappropriation, abuse of power, and bribery related to the appointment of a developer for a project in Kuala Lumpur. The alleged wrongdoing involves the sale of land belonging to the statutory body to a company with ties to the developer without the knowledge of the statutory body's board of directors or its subsidiaries.

The MACC chief commissioner, Abd Halim Aman, confirmed the arrests and stated that the case is being investigated for bribery to influence official actions or transactions. The arrests follow weeks of scrutiny into Felda's issues, as mentioned by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in reference to the release of a royal commission of inquiry report into Tabung Haji.
