CS Tuya credits Ruto for considering leaders from pastoralist communities

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya highlighted the appointment of Devolution Principal Secretary Michael Lenasalon as an example of increased opportunities for individuals from pastoralist communities to serve in high-ranking government positions. This appointment was made evident during Lenasalon’s thanksgiving service in South Horr, Samburu County, which was attended by President William Ruto and other national and local leaders.

Tuya emphasized that such appointments demonstrate the possibility for young people from pastoralist backgrounds to aspire to influential roles and contribute to the nation's development. "Mheshimiwa Rais amefungua njia where a pastoralist child does not just dream of becoming somebody important in this country," Tuya stated, noting that Lenasalon’s family background served as a testament to the fact that one’s family status does not determine one’s potential for success.

She further pointed out that Lenasalon’s journey to his current role, despite initial doubts about his suitability due to his appearance and background, serves as inspiration for young pastoralist individuals who may not come from prominent families. Tuya praised Lenasalon’s family, particularly his father, for providing a clear example of how individuals can achieve significant positions despite initial challenges.

She also acknowledged the significant role of the Catholic Church in supporting pastoralist communities through its partnership with government initiatives aimed at reducing poverty, promoting peace, and ensuring justice. "We thank you, the Catholic Church, for the practicality of your mission," Tuya expressed, highlighting the church’s long-standing commitment to grassroots support and sustainable development in regions like South Horr.
