China Masters final fuels Pang Ron-Pei Jing's Olympic dream

KUALA LUMPUR: Hoo Pang Ron and Lai Pei Jing, an independent mixed doubles pair, aim to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics following their strong performance at the China Masters. The world No. 85 duo lost the mixed doubles final at the Shenzhen Arena to China's world No. 1 Feng Yan and Zhe-Huang Dong Ping. Their defeat to the top-ranked duo prevented them from becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to win a Super 750 tournament.

However, their loss has bolstered their confidence in the partnership they formed earlier this year. Pang Ron expressed their determination to compete for the Olympics, stating that they will take the qualifying process step by step while ensuring they enjoy the game. They also acknowledged that nerves affected their performance in the opening exchanges but noted that they quickly adjusted to the environment and improved.

Pei Jing was satisfied with their overall performance, specifically praising their ability to recover from doubts. The pair, who have been playing together since Tan Kian Meng's retirement, believe they have found the right partnership, and Pei Jing is optimistic about their future prospects.
