Cardinals, Rockies players tilt caps a day after umpire Eddings’ comments to St. Louis rookie

St. Louis Cardinals and Colorado Rockies baseball players tilted their caps in apparent protest on Saturday night, one day after umpire Doug Eddings instructed Cardinals rookie pitcher Hancel Rincon to adjust his hat. The protest followed an argument between St. Louis manager Oliver Marmol and Eddings, which resulted in Marmol's ejection.

Most Cardinals players kept their caps tilted during pregame warmups and throughout the game, with some even tilting their batting helmets when reaching base. Colorado players also wore their caps to the side. Rincon reported that Eddings apologized to him after a brief meeting on the field, a gesture Rincon accepted. Marmol, speaking through an interpreter, said there were "no meaningful" words exchanged during their conversation.

St. Louis starter Matthew Liberatore praised the team's unity, emphasizing their ability to support one another during challenging times. Rincon, a 24-year-old Dominican, made his MLB debut in relief on Friday and wore his cap with the brim tilted to the left. He straightened it on Eddings' request but got a hit before being replaced by Justin Bruihl. Marmol then confronted Eddings, leading to his ejection during Colorado's five-run inning.
