Caleb Amisi: Orengo should be our adviser, not the flag bearer

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has criticized Siaya Governor James Orengo's presidential ambitions, urging him to step aside and serve as an adviser to the younger generation. During an interview on September 6, 2026, Amisi stated that Kenya is now at a point of generational change and that the 2027 election should focus on economic renaissance, which he believes should be championed by younger leaders like Edwin Sifuna.

While praising Orengo's contributions to democracy and human rights, Amisi argued that it is not the right time for him to be a presidential candidate. He emphasized that Orengo needs to stay back and offer counsel as the younger generation leads the cause. Amisi, who helped initiate the Linda Mwananchi movement and the Kenya Moja caucus, is among the supporters of younger leaders and believes that Orengo's contributions are not necessary in the 2027 presidential race.
