Budget 2027 to emphasise support for M40 and lower‑income groups, says Finance Minister’s aide

LUMUT, Sept 6 — The upcoming 2027 Budget is anticipated to prioritize assistance for the middle-income (M40) and lower-income groups, as per an aide to the Finance Minister. Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the political secretary to Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, stated that both groups are particularly impacted by economic pressures and current cost-of-living challenges.

Kamil emphasized that the Budget will be more inclusive and closer to the people, aimed at resolving several arising problems. He mentioned that stakeholders are currently engaging in direct discussions to finalize the Budget. The Prime Minister, who is also the Finance Minister, is set to present the Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat on October 9.

Kamil noted that existing assistance programs like the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) will continue to be bolstered to alleviate the financial strain on households. He also hinted at potential enhancements to existing initiatives and new forms of financial support to aid middle-income households. Kamil reiterated that the government's main focus remains on maintaining political and economic stability to ensure the seamless execution of national policies.
