Asutifi North Assembly donates to 37 PWDs

The Asutifi North District Assembly in Ghana's Ahafo Region recently provided 37 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) with essential items to enhance their living standards. The beneficiaries received diverse goods such as chest freezers, fufu pounding machines, industrial sewing machines, wheelchairs, livestock, and provisions. District Chief Executive Hafiz Dauda lauded the government for raising the disability fund's allocation from three to five percent, which facilitated the procurement of more high-quality items for the district's PWDs.

He urged beneficiaries to utilize the items effectively and noted that those who had received support wouldn't be considered for future distributions until other PWDs were attended to.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, also encouraged PWDs to capitalize on government initiatives to improve their economic situation and integrate into society. Social Welfare Director Monica Osei Mensah announced measures to prevent beneficiaries from selling the items they received, emphasizing that the Social Welfare Department would closely monitor them to ensure proper utilization and optimum value for money.

Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the District Assembly and the government, stating that the items would significantly improve their livelihoods.
