Amusan misses podium as Russell wins Diamond League crown

American hurdler Masai Russell secured the Diamond League title in the women's 100m hurdles at the Brussels final on Saturday, setting a meet record of 12.20 seconds. Nigerian Tobi Amusan secured fourth place with a time of 12.54 seconds, trailing Russell's training partner Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas (12.33 seconds) and Jamaica's Megan Simmonds (12.43 seconds).

The race had been a highlight of the Diamond League finale, as Russell was returning after breaking Amusan's previous world record in Zurich. Charlton and Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser were also major contenders, but Amusan was determined to regain her top position in the event. Russell had previously set a world record in Zurich, beating Amusan, who finished second with a time of 12.23 seconds.

Amusan, a three-time Diamond League champion, had previously held the world record for four years before Russell broke it. The 100m hurdles was one of several standout events at the Diamond League finale, with automatic qualification for the upcoming $10 million World Athletics Ultimate Championship on offer to winners of World Athletics Ultimate Championship-affiliated events.
