Airlines alter UAE schedules as regional tensions persist

Airlines operating in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are making ongoing adjustments to their flight schedules and routes due to ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran. Both Dubai International Airport and Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport are currently functioning, but many UAE-based carriers have encountered delays and cancellations across their networks.

Major airlines such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia have largely upheld most operations, implementing selective modifications to accommodate airspace restrictions and security assessments. Passengers are advised to verify their flight statuses directly with airlines, as schedules may undergo rapid changes.

The disruption stems from heightened conflict between Washington and Tehran, including Iranian attacks on US naval vessels and retaliatory US strikes on Iranian oil tankers. In response, airlines are avoiding sensitive areas of Gulf airspace and reassessing regional routing. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has extended its advisory concerning Gulf airspace until September 30, recommending that airlines avoid designated areas over the Persian Gulf unless they have suitable risk-mitigation measures in place.

Airlines are advised not to utilize Iranian, Iraqi, or Lebanese airspace, with limited exceptions for flights serving Beirut.

International carriers have further extended suspensions affecting the UAE, with Cathay Pacific postponing the resumption of Dubai services until November 30, and Lufthansa, Swiss, and Eurowings planning to keep Dubai flights suspended until October 24. Air France will keep Dubai services suspended until September 8, while Singapore Airlines has extended its suspension until October 24.

Finnair has halted services to Dubai until March 27, 2027, and British Airways has delayed its planned return to Dubai until October 25, making additional changes throughout the region. KLM has suspended Dubai flights until October 24, avoiding airspace in Iran, Iraq, Israel, and parts of the Arabian Gulf. Wizz Air has suspended flights from mainland Europe to Dubai and Abu Dhabi until October 24, and Air Canada has extended its Dubai suspension until mid-January 2027. Korean Air has no fixed date for resuming its Incheon-Dubai route.

While some airlines have resumed selected services, such as Turkish Airlines to Dubai and Abu Dhabi and Emirates operating one daily flight between Dubai and Bahrain, most airlines continue to prioritize passenger safety and operational flexibility as route planning becomes increasingly complex. Passengers are urged to maintain up-to-date contact information, monitor airline apps and websites for changes, and allow extra time for airport procedures.
