Action against 5 more madrasas in Uttarakhand as new education regime takes shape; tally reaches 20

In Uttarakhand, the government has taken action against five additional unrecognised madrasas, bringing the total shut down across the state to 20. The latest closures occurred in Dehradun and Haldwani, with three madrasas in Dehradun and two in Haldwani sealed or shut down. Minority Affairs Secretary Dr Parag Madhukar Dhakate stated that the government's ongoing action aims to ensure all educational institutions in the state adhere to prescribed recognition requirements and educational standards.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized that no institution will operate without complying with these rules and recognitions. The action follows the abolition of Uttarakhand's Madrasa Board in July, replaced by the Uttarakhand State Authority for Minority Education (USAME). This new authority oversees educational institutions from the six notified minority communities. Previously, the state had 452 recognised madrasas.
