A Sunday night at Lambeau marks Dan Hicks’ 35th NBC Sports season milestone

Dan Hicks, a seasoned NBC Sports announcer, is set to reach a significant milestone on Sunday night as he embarks on his 35th season with the network. This Sunday marks the beginning of his coverage of Notre Dame facing Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Reflecting on his long tenure, Hicks expressed his gratitude, stating, "I’m incredibly lucky to stay at one place this long. It takes a lot of things going your way as far as NBC continuing to have the properties that I’ve been a part of through the years."

Renowned for his expertise in golf, swimming, and skiing at the Olympics, Hicks has become an integral part of NBC’s broadcasting team. With over three decades of experience, Hicks has solidified his position as one of the network’s reliable play-by-play voices, despite not having pursued this role before his arrival at NBC in 1992.

Initially, Hicks gained exposure to play-by-play commentary through regional NFL coverage from 1992 to 1997, during which he worked alongside notable analysts such as Joe Namath, Joe Gibbs, Jim Kelly, Bob Trumpy, and Cris Collinsworth.

The journey to becoming a prominent play-by-play announcer was not without its challenges. Hicks admitted that stepping into the position was initially daunting, as he had predominantly focused on studio work prior to joining NBC. He noted, "It was always a dream of mine, that was always the goal, but all I had ever done was studio.

So when I got to NBC, I was the last guy on the depth chart and I’d always have the newest analyst to break in." However, Hicks found value in working with diverse personalities, learning to adapt his style to accommodate different analysts, which he found both enjoyable and enriching.
