1,000 nomads to be relocated for Shor Parod operation: Balochistan CM Bugti

Quetta, Pakistan - Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti announced plans to temporarily relocate around 1,000 nomads from a mountainous settlement in the Shor Parod area of Mastung district to create a secure environment for combating terrorism. During his address at the Balochistan Assembly, Bugti clarified that only this specific nomadic settlement would be affected, and that no mass displacement or relocation of other areas in Balochistan would occur.

He noted that the Shor Parod region has been home to armed groups and camps for several decades, making it a strategic target for security forces. The government survey reveals that approximately 1,000 individuals, primarily from nomadic communities, currently reside in the area. The relocation is intended to provide a safe space for security forces to operate and combat terrorist activities.

Bugti emphasized that the measure is temporary and aimed at creating a conducive atmosphere for counter-terrorism efforts, with special attention given to women, children, and the elderly. He pointed out that terrorists often utilize such areas as hideouts to plan attacks and employ civilians as shields when confronting state forces.

The chief minister also highlighted the importance of striking a balance between civilian and military institutions as they grapple with the ongoing security challenges. He stressed that security forces currently operate in a "grey zone," and a comprehensive understanding of the situation is necessary to effectively address the threat of terrorism.

Bugti rejected any interpretation of his remarks that suggested he advocated for citizens to take up arms against terrorists, emphasizing that the responsibility lies solely with the security forces to maintain order and protect the populace.
