Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen stunned Madison Keys at the U.S. Open with an impressive rally, winning the final seven games of their match 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-5. This marked Zheng's return to the tournament after a period of absence. Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova, another past runner-up at the U.S. Open, was eliminated by Anastasia Potapova in straight sets.

Anisimova's loss was particularly surprising, as she had bounced back from a loss in the second-set tiebreaker to take a 5-0 lead. Zheng, who won the gold medal for China at the 2024 Olympics and had previously reached the Australian Open final, is currently ranked No. 121 due to elbow surgery. Anisimova, who had reached the final at both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2025, failed to capitalize on break-point chances, converting only 19% of them.
