Thane Dahi Handi 2026: Ten Govindas Hospitalised After Accidents; 65-Year-Old Suffers Head Trauma

Thane, September 5, 2026: Ten human pyramid participants, known as Govindas, were hospitalized across two major hospitals in Thane after a series of accidents during the Dahi Handi festivities on Friday. Among the injured, a 65-year-old man suffered a severe head injury during the activities. Both Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa and the Civil Hospital in Thane were on high alert as emergency services rushed in several casualties that evening.

While the majority of the injured sustained minor bruises and soft tissue damage, at least two cases required immediate attention due to severe spinal, cranial, and orthopedic injuries. Hospital Details At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, four victims are under emergency evaluation and treatment. Nandkishor Shelar, a 65-year-old, was admitted with head trauma and is currently receiving specialized neurological care.

Jatin Patil, 30, sustained neck and lumbar spine injuries after falling from an upper level and is being assessed for spinal trauma. Jatin Keshari, 31, was admitted with lower back injuries. Nikhil Yadav, 35, is being treated for minor cuts on his left hand, receiving outpatient care. At the Civil Hospital, six individuals have been admitted, including Omkar Shinde, 25, who has a severe fracture in his right leg and needs orthopedic realignment and casting.

Five others are being monitored for minor back and superficial injuries. Safety Reminders Civic officials reminded that wearing mandatory safety gear, such as helmets, chest guards, and secure harnesses, is crucial for human pyramid formations that exceed five tiers. Hospital officials added that four participants with minor injuries are anticipated to be discharged soon, while medical teams continue to monitor those with fractures, spinal issues, and head injuries.
