TAFTA’s Àjose Returns for Third Showcase, Deepens Conversations on Healing, Justice, Women’s Health

The Terra Academy for the Arts (TAFTA), collaborating with Vision Spring Initiatives (VSI), hosted the third exhibition of Àjose, a theatrical production and radio drama series aimed at fostering conversations on women’s health, justice, and healing. Held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall, Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, the showcase drew together students, creatives, and community members.

This third presentation delved into themes of healing, empathy, well-being, justice, and collective responsibility, placing a strong focus on women’s reproductive health. Employing emotionally resonant performances and narratives rooted in culture, Àjose sought to make complex social and health issues more digestible and encourage reflection and behavioral change.

Bolanle Austen-Peters, the founder of TAFTA, emphasized the importance of storytelling as a tool for addressing difficult social issues, noting that the audience's continued engagement underscored the power of storytelling in connecting with people's lived experiences. Through these showcases, TAFTA and VSI have cultivated a safe and accessible environment for audiences to engage with sensitive topics.

According to Austen-Peters, theatre serves as a medium to broach difficult conversations with empathy, fostering learning, reflection, and transformation.

Mr. JO Umoibom, the Academy Lead at TAFTA, highlighted the production's youth-centric focus to ensure its messages remained pertinent to younger audiences. By presenting Àjose in this manner, the organization aimed to create an experience that is artistically robust, accessible, and thought-provoking. The audience's robust response to the third showcase reinforced the value of presenting social issues through relatable lenses, garnering laughter, emotion, and reflection among attendees.

TAFTA and VSI are now gearing up for the finale of Àjọṣe, the concluding episode in the series of showcases.
