Aussie star Myers beats Olympic champions to win Diamond League Final

Cameron Myers, the Australian track star, secured a remarkable victory in the men's 1,500m race at the Diamond League Final held in Brussels. Competing against a strong lineup that included two-time Olympic champions Cole Hocker and Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Myers demonstrated his prowess by clocking a time of 3:30.14. The 20-year-old Australian made history as only the eighth Australian to claim a Diamond League Final title, with his performance solidifying his status as one of the sport's brightest prospects.

Myers expressed his relief at finally showcasing his skills after years of hard work, emphasizing that the victory felt surreal. His final sprint in the home straight was expertly timed, allowing him to edge out Kenyan teenager Phanuel Koech (3:30.18) and American Ethan Strand (3:30.50) in a tight race. Ingebrigtsen, the 2020 Olympic gold medalist, finished fourth with a time of 3:30.52, while Hocker placed seventh.

The victory marks a significant milestone in Myers' young career, following a stellar season that saw him set a national record in the 1,500m at the Paris Diamond League meet, win the mile at the Prefontaine Classic, and finish second in the same event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Additionally, Australian athletes Kurtis Marschall and Lachlan Kennedy also performed well, securing third place in the men's pole vault and fourth place in the men's 100m, respectively.
