Suspect in Gizri acid attack case arrested in Punjab: police

A 35-year-old woman was recently attacked with acid in Karachi's Upper Gizri area, according to South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza. The victim sustained burns to her face, neck, and abdomen, covering 15% of her body, and was taken to the Burns Centre at Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital in an Edhi ambulance for treatment. Police later apprehended the suspect, a 35-year-old man, in his native Rajanpur, Punjab, with the assistance of Sindh Police.

DIG Raza has written to the Karachi additional inspector general of police to request permission for a police team to travel to Rajanpur and return the suspect to Karachi. The victim, who worked at a Clifton bungalow, was returning home when the attack occurred. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar had previously taken notice of the incident and directed police to utilize all available resources to ensure the suspect's immediate arrest.

The Supreme Court had recently classified acid attacks as more severe than homicide, describing them as crimes that leave victims with a "living death."
