On Sunday, September 6, 2026, South Africa will experience cold, cool, and wet weather across most regions. Severe weather alerts have been issued in several areas. In the North West province, expect an Orange Level 6 warning for severe thunderstorms, which could cause flooding, strong gusty winds, hail damage, travel disruptions, and municipal service outages.

The northern half of the Free State and the north-eastern corner of the Northern Cape also face these conditions, but not the extreme northeastern part. Gauteng and the Highveld region of Mpumalanga are under an Orange Level 5 warning, with similar threats of flooding, strong winds, and hail. The North-Eastern part of North West, eastern Northern Cape, western Free State, and the Lesotho border are under a Yellow Level 4 warning, with potential for similar impacts.

The Western Bushveld, southwestern Limpopo, and most of Mpumalanga have a Yellow Level 2 warning, with localized damage risks from severe thunderstorms, falling trees, and lightning-related fires. A Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging wind is also in effect, posing risks to ports and maritime navigation from Table Bay to Cape Agulhas.
