Selangor slams FAM for 'not giving a single sen' and neglecting its affiliates

The FA of Malaysia (FAM) is considered the wealthiest national sports organization in the country, yet it fails to provide any financial assistance to its affiliated states. This situation was highlighted by Selangor's deputy president, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, who criticized FAM for neglecting its member affiliates (MAs). Shahril argued that the national body only seeks votes from state associations during elections, without offering any financial support in return.

Selangor, in particular, has never received any allocation from FAM, he stated firmly. The FAM president's office oversees the entire football ecosystem, which includes leagues, clubs, and affiliates, and neglecting any part of it can have detrimental effects. Shahril, who is challenging for the FAM presidency at the Extraordinary Congress on September 17, has over 30 years of corporate experience and has emphasized the need for modern corporate governance to manage the heavy workload effectively.

He is not seeking a long-term tenure and aims to deliver immediate reforms to address the dire state of Malaysian football. Selangor's chief executive officer, Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon, clarified that only the Selangor Football Association (FAS) will cast a vote at the congress, as both Selangor FC and FAS are under the leadership of the Raja Muda of Selangor, and FAS is the sole representative entity.
