São Paulo end Atlético-MG unbeaten run to continue BR revival

Atlético Mineiro's impressive 14-match unbeaten run in the Brasileirão came to an end with a 2-0 defeat to São Paulo FC. Goals from Luciano and Iago secured the victory for the hosts, who now boast 33 points, moving up to 10th place in the standings after a second straight win. This is the first time since April that São Paulo has achieved back-to-back wins.

The match, held at Morumbi Stadium in front of 39,068 fans, showcased São Paulo's ability to counter Atlético Mineiro's deep defensive strategy effectively. Despite having more possession in the first half, São Paulo relied on their ability to break down a stubborn defensive line. They capitalized on an offside situation involving Gustavo Santana before Artur's shot was converted by Luciano for the opening goal.

Iago added a second goal shortly after, rising to score from a cross by Lucas Ramon. Atlético made efforts to respond, but failed to create any significant scoring opportunities. The second half saw three substitutions by São Paulo FC, all of which adhered to the established system, proving to be a wise decision.

Atlético Mineiro, on the other hand, remains in eighth place with 36 points. Both teams will now focus on advancing to the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana quarter-finals. São Paulo will face Boca Juniors at La Bombonera on Tuesday, while Atlético will travel to face Santos at Vila Belmiro the following day. São Paulo's next home game in the Brasileirão will be against Fluminense on Saturday.
