Rutgers Basketball Adds First Commit of 2027 Class in 4 Star Shooting Guard RJ Moore

Newark, New Jersey - March 12: Rutgers basketball has announced the addition of its first commitment for the 2027 class, shooting guard RJ Moore. The 4-star recruit from Huntersville, South Carolina, currently plays his high school ball at Ambassador Christian School. Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing 190 pounds, Moore showcased his skills during his junior year, averaging 18.6 points, 2.5 assists, and 8 rebounds per game.

Compared to other top programs like Alabama, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Wake Forest, and Virginia, Moore chose Rutgers as his destination. His decision was made after an official visit, where he had planned to also visit the University of Tennessee, North Carolina, and Alabama. However, with his commitment, it is anticipated that he will cancel those visits.

Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports highlighted Moore's strengths as a recruit, noting that he is a "high-upside wing who combines shooting with positional size and movement skills." Moore's unique niche lies in his proficiency from beyond the three-point line, where he showcases a natural stroke and soft ball. He has demonstrated the ability to make deep threes and side-step into tough ones, effectively utilizing his clear gravity spacing on the floor.

With Moore's commitment, Rutgers is projected to have three more open scholarship spots available for the 2027 season, pending the impact of the new five-year eligibility rules and the transfer portal.
