Robert Pattinson and Oasis bring star power to Venice Film Festival

VENICE, Italy (AP) — The worlds of rock and movie stardom collided at the Venice Film Festival, as both Robert Pattinson and Oasis frontmen Noel and Liam Gallagher arrived for world premieres on Saturday. Pattinson’s film, "Primetime," explores the reality TV show "To Catch a Predator" and its host Chris Hansen during its peak on Dateline NBC, while the Gallaghers premiere a documentary about their 2025 reunion tour.

Both films are set for U.S. theaters in September. This year has seen numerous high-profile moments, from George Clooney’s lifetime achievement award to John Malkovich’s emotional performance in "Wild Horse Nine." Pattinson’s "Primetime," based on a journalist’s article and directed by Lance Oppenheim, has already sparked conversation with just its trailer and subject matter.

It delves into a 2006 sting operation on a Texas assistant district attorney who later took his own life. Oppenheim aimed to trace the ambitions of individuals entangled in the operation. Hansen, not involved in the film's creation, expressed dissatisfaction with an NDA he signed and questioned the filmmakers' motives. Last year, the show inspired a documentary, "Predators," currently streaming on Paramount+.

For Pattinson, "Primetime" is another standout performance in a successful year that includes "The Drama," "The Odyssey," and "Dune: Part Three" yet to come.
