Reps dissolve ad-hoc committees

On Saturday, the House of Representatives announced the immediate dissolution of all ad hoc committees, effective Friday, 28th August 2026. The directive, issued by Clerk of the House Sidi Ibrahim, is in response to earlier calls for committees to complete their assignments and submit reports within the stipulated timeframe. Only two committees had requested and received a two-week extension, which has since expired.

The House emphasizes that ad hoc committees are temporary bodies established for specific and time-bound mandates, not intended to persist indefinitely beyond their purpose and allotted time. According to Order Eighteen, Rule 11, Paragraph 5 of the House Standing Orders, committees are required to submit their reports within the allotted period.

With the extension period now expired, the House has determined that the continued existence of ad hoc committees is no longer tenable. All affected committee chairmen are directed to submit all outstanding reports, working documents, records, and other materials related to their assignments to the Office of the Clerk for safekeeping.
