Punjab faces greater threat from other provinces than 'neighbouring countries': CM Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized during a recent AI technology event in Lahore that the region faces a more significant security threat from neighboring provinces than from neighboring countries. The chief minister noted that terrorism typically enters Punjab through its provincial borders. She spoke at an AI technology event in Lahore, expressing concern about the threat posed by neighboring provinces.

Maryam asserted that Punjab had seen a substantial improvement in law and order since her administration took office in 2024. Among the challenges the province faces, Maryam highlighted organized crime and religious intolerance, citing groups that spread hatred under the guise of religion as a particular concern. She stated that religious events are now held peacefully, contrasting this with the religious polarization that occurred a couple of years ago.

The chief minister also highlighted Punjab's transformation into the country's "most AI-enabled province," noting the significant investment in technology and security to bolster protection. When she first took office, Maryam revealed that terrorists possessed advanced technology, including night-vision cameras, and executed attacks with meticulous planning.

She expressed gratitude for the current system in place, which has improved security markedly. Thermal cameras and drones have been deployed at checkpoints and joint checkpoints to fortify security and safeguard citizens. Maryam recalled that checkpoint attacks had previously claimed the lives of five individuals and sometimes as many as ten.

She further attributed the enhanced security to investments in fortification and technology. Referring to the katcha areas, which were once hubs of terrorism and crime, including kidnappings for ransom and honey traps, Maryam stated that the situation has improved under the support from the military and the Punjab government, along with the cooperation of the Sindh government.

This transformation has led to the katcha areas now being largely crime-free, and the state's authority is firmly established in these regions. Additionally, Maryam announced her decision to take action against corrupt elements a few days prior. She emphasized that the issue extends beyond government or police ranks, as corruption has become a daily occurrence in the nation.

Maryam affirmed that her government has implemented a system to swiftly address corrupt individuals, asserting that the lack of trust in the state prevents a country from progressing.
