Prosecutor General's Office considers dismissal of employee in NABU call center fraud case

The Prosecutor General's Office has accused NABU of overreach in conducting overnight searches of key Prosecutor General offices. The statement, released on September 5, addressed two issues: the possible involvement of a Prosecutor General's Office employee in scam call centers and the searches themselves. The office is considering dismissing the implicated employee.

NABU detectives accessed materials from unrelated criminal proceedings during these searches, including a case involving SAPO leadership and covert investigative measures against NABU and SAPO employees. The Prosecutor General's Office argued that the court order authorizing the search was based on intercepted conversations about routine office matters, which investigators inferred might involve illegal money sources.

They stressed that these materials did not contain direct evidence of the Prosecutor General's involvement in facilitating call center activities or obstructing investigations.

The office maintained that it respects NABU and SAPO's independence and supports cooperation among law enforcement agencies. They emphasized that any potential unlawful activity by prosecutors must be investigated, but all actions must comply with the law and court authority.
