PAS muktamar approves motions on Muslim unity, ‘corporate mafia’ RCI

During the PAS muktamar meeting in Kota Bharu, three motions were approved without debate and four were debated before being passed. Among these motions, strengthening Muslim unity and calling for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into alleged "corporate mafia" activities were among the approved ones.

The motion on Muslim unity was proposed by Zulqarnain Hassan, an Ulama Council representative from PAS. He emphasized the importance of unity in bolstering community, political stability, social harmony, and the country's overall well-being. He stressed that Muslim unity should be a strategic agenda that transcends party and electoral interests, rooted in Islamic principles, mutual understanding, and the interests of the community and nation.

Nasruddin Hassan, a PAS representative from the Indera Mahkota, also supported the motion on Muslim unity. He acknowledged that previous attempts to achieve unity had failed, but remained hopeful that this time it would succeed. He urged delegates to avoid "troublemakers" and "hidden hands" attempting to undermine the agenda and encouraged using social media platforms to foster unity, rather than for division.

The motion calling for an RCI into the so-called "corporate mafia" activities was proposed by Nazrul Nazir, a PAS Youth Council member. He requested an independent and comprehensive investigation based on facts and evidence, without prejudging any party involved. An earlier Bloomberg report alleged that several Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers were part of a "corporate mafia" that provided intimidation services to pressure business executives into selling their shareholdings. However, the then MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki dismissed these allegations as baseless.
