NPS directs political organisers to notify police 3-14 days before rallies

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a directive requiring political leaders and organizers to notify police between three and 14 days prior to holding public rallies or processions. This directive, issued on Saturday, is based on the provisions of the Public Order Act, aimed at enabling effective police security during the election period.

Organizers are obligated to submit their full names and address, the planned venue or route for the meeting or procession, and the event's date and time. If another event is scheduled for the same date, time, and location, organizers will be notified that the proposed gathering cannot occur. Any event not approved by the regulating officer will not be held on the originally proposed date, time, or location.

Those involved in violence, sponsoring criminal gangs, inciting supporters, or disrupting lawful gatherings will be prosecuted according to the law. The NPS emphasizes that no individual is exempt from the law, regardless of their social status, political affiliation, or public office. They urge political leaders, supporters, and all stakeholders to maintain peace, restraint, and respect for the rule of law.
